Musicology
Musicology is Prince’s 27th album. It was his return to pop music after a number of jazz fusion releases and it was a significant commercial success. The album features a mixture of vintage and contemporary R&B along with a few rock influenced songs.
The album was recorded with the same band that toured the Rainbow Children and recorded N.E.W.S. and features similar instrumentation. Prince gave interviews to Guitar Player, Keyboard, Bass Player and Modern Drummer, meaning it is one of the better documented albums.
Prince promoted the album on the 2004ever tour, from March to September 2004. The shows featured an acoustic set for the first time. Prince also performed at the Grammy’s and the Rock ’N’ Roll Hall of fame around this time.
