The Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion is an effects pedal used by Prince from the mid 1990s onward. It first appeared on Prince’s pedalboard in The Gold Experience era. By the 2000s, Prince was using clean amplifiers and relying on this pedal and the Boss BD-2 Blues Driver for all his overdrive and distortion sounds. He tended to run this pedal with the gain on maximum and on the more extreme “II” mode. It was also used for processing the Linn LM-1.
One of Prince’s DS-2s is currently on display at Paisley Park.
