The electric sitar is a hybrid electric guitar/sitar instrument, played by Prince on the song “7”. It uses a special bridge and set of sympathetic strings to emulate the sitar sound, and it was commonly used on soul recordings in the 1970s. Prince’s electric sitar appears to be a customized Coral or Danelectro electric sitar, with a reshaped headstock, Fender Stratocaster and Jazz pickups and a custom red finish.
It is currently a part of the collection at Paisley Park.
