Newpower Soul
Newpower Soul is the third album credited to the New Power Generation. However, Prince is the lead vocalist, appears on the cover (as Symbol) and toured the album extensively so it is included here.
It is largely a funk and R&B album with a few ballads. Prince uses the Linn LM-1 and Oberheim OB-8 for the first time since the 1980s. Although it is credited to the NPG, there are no full band performances. Kirk Johnson contributes programming and co-production on many of the songs, Kat Dyson plays slide guitar and Rhonda Smith plays fretless bass.
Prince and the NPG toured the album from April to December 1998.
