Fender Telecaster

Prince played a natural Fender Telecaster in 1979 and 1980. It was replaced by the Hohner Madcat after the release of Dirty Mind. Although the Madcat has a similar shape to the Telecaster, it has different pickups. Prince was rarely seen with a Fender Telecaster after 1980, preferring his Madcat.

Prince also had a Telecaster that was finished in red and cut into a heart shape. This remains in the collection at Paisley Park.

Dez Dickerson also played a Telecaster in an "Antigua" finish on the Dirty Mind and Controversy tours.
