The Fender Bassman is a guitar amplifier used by Prince in the 2000s and 2010s. It was first used on the One Nite Alone tour, when Prince started playing smaller venues.
The amplifier represented a departure for Prince, who had previously used a combination of high gain amplifiers and pedals for his distorted sounds. It was around this time that Prince started relying on his pedals for distortion and using his amp as a clean “pedal platform”. The Bassman is related to Prince’s previous amplifiers, as the Mesa/Boogie Mark series started off as modified Bassman amplifiers.
Prince would continue using Bassman amplifiers for smaller aftershows for the rest of his career.
